Citrus County Commission Considers Impact Fee Reduction

Citrus County Commissioner, Ms. Bays, along with two other Republican In-Name-Only (RINO) commissioners, are looking to “rework” or reduce the impact fee for builders in an effort to keep them from leaving the county. This move has raised concerns among residents about the potential consequences of increased growth.

The impact fee reduction is intended to attract builders, but critics argue that it will lead to a cycle of continuous growth, with the commission needing to authorize more houses to accommodate the influx of new residents. This, in turn, may put a strain on local resources, including water and electricity. Recently, residents received notices to reduce their electric consumption and water usage due to inadequate supply.

Some residents are nostalgic for the days when Citrus County was known as the “Nature Coast” and Inverness was a more rural, less congested area. They remember when it was possible to water their yards twice a week and the waterways were not congested. The issue has become even more pressing with Ms. Bays announcing her candidacy for re-election.

The proposed impact fee reduction has sparked a debate about the balance between growth and preservation of the county’s natural resources. Residents are encouraged to attend commission meetings and voice their opinions on the matter.
