The Inverness Citrus High School Canes football team defeated the Panthers of Brooksville High School on Friday night, September 16, 2022, at Citrus High School, 28-7, to retain possession of “The Plate,” a trophy awarded to the winner of their annual rivalry game.
The game, which was played in front of a packed crowd at Citrus High School, located at 1325 N. Citrus Ave, Inverness, Florida, saw the Canes dominate from the start. The team’s quarterback, Tyler Pinder, led the charge with a strong performance, throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for another. The Canes’ defense was also impressive, holding the Panthers to just 7 points. The win improves the Canes’ record to 5-2, while the Panthers fall to 3-4. This victory marks the Canes’ third consecutive win over the Panthers.
The rivalry between Citrus High School and Brooksville High School is one of the most intense in the region, with “The Plate” being awarded to the winner of their annual matchup. The trophy has been a symbol of bragging rights between the two schools for many years.
