A burn barrel blaze scorched 2 acres of land and threatened nearby homes in Crystal River on Monday night, March 18, 2024, around 10:30 p.m., at 1435 Southeast 5th Avenue, according to Citrus County Fire Rescue.
The fire, which was reported by a concerned citizen, was quickly responded to by Citrus County Fire Rescue units. Firefighters worked to contain the blaze, which was fueled by dry conditions and strong winds. No homes were damaged, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Citrus County Fire Rescue was assisted by the Crystal River Police Department and the Florida Forest Service. The fire was brought under control by 11:45 p.m. on Monday. The American Red Cross was also on scene to provide assistance to any residents who may have been displaced.
