Brooksville Elks Lodge 2582: Promoting Charity, Justice, and Brotherly Love

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, founded in New York in February 1868, has grown into a nationwide organization with 1,900 locations. The Brooksville Elks Lodge 2582, chartered in 1978, is located at 13383 County Line Road and continues the tradition of promoting charity, justice, brotherly love, and fidelity.

The Elks organization was initially known as the “Jolly Corks,” a troop of 15 actors, entertainers, and theater associates. After nationalization, the group established rituals and named themselves after the elk due to its “sturdiness” and “protectiveness.” The organization aims to bring hope, relief, and opportunity where needed, supporting veterans, youth, and those with special needs. The Brooksville lodge was originally located at what is now Great Life Church on Cortez Boulevard before moving to its current location in 2014 after purchasing the building from the Slovenian American Club.

The Elks’ mission is to promote and practice the four cardinal virtues of Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love, and Fidelity, while enhancing the happiness of its members and fostering American patriotism.
