Booksville Festival Volume II Draws Thousands to Hernando County Fairgrounds

The Booksville Festival, Volume 2, drew thousands of readers, writers, and families to the Hernando County Fairgrounds on Saturday, January 24, transforming the venue into a celebration of Brooksville’s literary heritage. Hosted by the Brooksville Woman’s Club, the free day-long festival featured more than 60 local authors, hands-on activities, live readings, spelling bees, costume contests, and collaborative art projects designed for all ages.

Woman’s Club President and local author Natalie Kahler designed Booksville as more than a traditional book fair. “My intent was to create a celebration of all things literature. Not just by purchasing books, but interacting with authors, literature-inspired art, costume contests, and spelling bees. Anything to tie to love of reading and books,” Kahler said. The festival distinguished itself from other regional literary events by offering unique book binding activities and interactive experiences not found elsewhere.

After the overwhelming success of the inaugural festival on Brooksville’s Main Street, organizers moved to accommodate rapid growth. “We outgrew our space on Main St. very quickly,” Kahler explained, “and we made the decision to move to the Hernando County Fairgrounds.” The new indoor setting provided comfortable shelter for books, readers, and authors, while vendors were placed outside and contests took place in the fairgrounds’ large indoor area.

The festival’s expansion reflected the strength of Hernando County’s writing community. Registration opened first to Hernando County authors before spaces were made available to underrepresented genres from outside the county. The Brooksville Woman’s Club organized the event to showcase local literary talent while providing educational entertainment for families throughout the region.
