The city of Inverness hosted its annual Big Bass, Bluegrass & BBQ festival on Friday and Saturday at the Depot District. The event, which included the Bega Big Bass Classic fishing competition and a bluegrass music performance, drew large crowds despite rainy weather on Saturday. Dave Turner caught the big bass of the hour, a 5-pound-plus fish, and was awarded $1,000.
The festival featured a variety of activities, including the Nature Coast Outdoor and Recreation Expo, hosted by the Citrus County Chronicle. The expo showcased outdoor recreation opportunities in the area, while also providing a platform for local vendors to sell their wares. A total of 123 anglers participated in the Bega Big Bass Classic, competing for top prizes. The event was well-attended, with spectators staying dry under the cover of the Depot District while enjoying the bluegrass music.
The festival’s food offerings included barbecue from local vendors, such as Grilling for the Master out of Homosassa. Donald Goodman, a representative of the vendor, was on hand to season pork for festival-goers. The event was a success, with attendees and participants alike enjoying the festivities.
