On Monday night, January 15, 2024, authorities discovered dozens of animals found dead due to neglect at a property in Floral City. Deputies say the owner, 41-year-old Jennifer Renee Smith, was arrested in connection with the incident.

According to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, a total of 53 animals, including horses, cows, goats, and chickens, were found dead on the property located at 15950 NW 137th Avenue, Floral City. The investigation revealed that Smith had been operating an animal rescue at the location, but conditions were deemed inhumane. Smith was charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty and neglect.
